About Alex Wicks

A creator that stumbled upon watercolor.

Who am I?

I’m a husband and father of two that loves to create. I’ve spent 15 years creating software, 20+ years building things out of wood, and all my life drawing and painting. In 2021 I fell in love with watercolor and the way it interacts with both paper and wood. Ever since I’ve been deepening my understanding of the medium and pushing myself through art festivals, plein air events, competitions, and more.

I’m inspired by the outdoors and so that is what I paint and where I mostly paint. You can find me on any given morning along the front range of Colorado probably set up behind an easel in a random field.

I strive to bring a sense of adventure through portrayals of depth and color that only painting on location grants. The freshness and spontaneity of watercolor allows me to capture those moments in time that make an outing so memorable. It's these moments that have captivated my artistic spirit and lead me to search for more adventure, a feeling I wish to share through my work.
